Super kid

Starting over: Likes the transition from middle school to high school. “You get a clean start. No one (teacher) knows you, (and) if you talk too much, like I do… .”

WASL wow: Earned a perfect score on the reading section of the eighth-grade Washington Assessment of Student Learning and the highest score in his middle school on the science section. Shrugs off results. “I was really surprised. Reading really isn’t my strong point.”

Homegrown: Has spent his childhood in the Lakewood School District and likes the idea of graduating from a system with friends he has grown up with since kindergarten.

Runs for fun: Cross country season is over, but he’s continuing to run after school. Likes being on the team and hopes to make the traveling squad and varsity through hard work next fall.

Wonders why he does it when he gets a side ache, but is reminded afterward when teammates encourage him near the end of a run and he feels a sense of accomplishment.

Have snow, will travel: Races cross country in another sport: snow mobile competitions. Is headed to Minnesota soon for a race and has raced in Montana before. Likes riding snow mobiles on Mount Baker most. Says getting cold – as in 20 degrees below 0 – is part of the sport. “I love to go fast.”

Big sister: Has a sister, Corrine, an Lakewood High School senior, who’s been more than just a ride to and from school. “She’s real good (at cross country).” Showed him friendships that can be made from the sport.

Favorite music “Everything but country.”

Country life: Lives across the street from Lake Ki, which means swimming and fishing. Has woods nearby, which has been a great place to grow up playing with friends.

Travel bug: Has been to Mexico and on Caribbean cruises and is curious about the rest of the world. “I want to see what other countries are like.”
