Marysville crash leads to arrest in 2 Arlington robberies

ARLINGTON — A 20-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in connection with two June robberies at the same Arlington apartment building.

Both happened late at night as people were returning to their homes just east of Highway 9. A man wearing a blue bandana over his face allegedly walked up to them, pressed a gun to their heads and demanded belongings.

The first robbery happened June 9. A 36-year-old man was getting out of his car near the apartments along 200th Street NE. It was after midnight. The suspect pointed what looked like a gun and told the man to hand over his possessions, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The victim gave up his keys and wallet.

Later that day, the suspect tried to use the man’s credit card at a fast-food restaurant across the street, police said. The card already had been canceled.

Another robbery happened three days later.

A man, 23, and a woman, 20, were heading back to their apartment shortly before midnight. The suspect walked up behind the 23-year-old and aimed a pellet gun at him, according to court papers.

The 23-year-old grabbed the suspect’s gun. He wrestled the suspect and disarmed him.

The suspect ran away, leaving behind the blue bandana and what turned out to be a pellet gun.

Police recovered traces of DNA on the items. A match reportedly was found in a database that logs genetic samples from convicted felons.

The suspect was in the wind until Tuesday when he was involved in a car crash in Marysville. His car was towed to the Arlington Police Department parking lot. A detective told him to come by the station to collect it.

When the suspect arrived, detectives asked to talk about the stolen credit card. He was arrested shortly after.

They also found baggies of methamphetamine and heroin in his front pocket, according to court papers.

The suspect was arrested for investigation of second-degree robbery, possession of stolen property and drug crimes.
