EVERETT – Police have arrested an Everett man they believe stole about $500 in quarters during a break-in at a Kmart store where he had earlier installed the store’s security cameras.
Detectives also believe the man was responsible for stealing a computer from a Fred Meyer store while he was a security guard there.
The man, 23, was arrested Wednesday after police located the stolen computer in his Everett apartment, according to a search warrant filed in Everett District Court.
The man called police Sunday to report that his girlfriend had assaulted him. The woman told officers the man mentioned the thefts while they were arguing about money, court papers said.
The man was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of second-degree burglary and possession of stolen property.
The Kmart, at 8102 Evergreen Way, was burglarized April 20. Police believe the man cut a hole in the roof of the cashier’s office and disabled a security camera. Rolls of quarters were taken from the store.
A security officer told police the suspect had installed most of the security cameras at the store when he worked there. He was fired in December after he reportedly tried to get into the cashier’s office with a key he wasn’t permitted to have, the security officer told police.
The computer was reported stolen about two years ago from the Fred Meyer store on Evergreen Way.
