SNOHOMISH — Police arrested a woman Friday in an apparent mail theft ring that victimized at least 50 people.
The Snohomish woman, 25, was stopped for a traffic violation just after midnight. She had a suspended license and police found cocaine and methamphetamine in her car, according to Police Chief Rob Sofie.
Police also found a large amount of stolen mail, including bank checks and cards. There were birth dates and other personal information scribbled on some of the mail.
There also was a map with certain areas of the county circled and a notepad containing numerous pages of what appeared to be forged signatures.
"This person has access to highly sensitive information," Sofie said. "We’re still trying to grasp the enormity of (the case)."
The woman was released on bail from the Snohomish County Jail on Friday, but was rearrested later in the day by Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies for similar violations, Sofie said.
