BURIEN — King County sheriff’s deputies have one suspect in custody after a car crashed into a Big 5 sporting goods store Tuesday morning in Burien.
The sheriff’s office says tactical teams are working to clear the sporting goods store, looking for any other suspects inside.
Sgt. DB Gates says it appears to be a burglary attempt targeting the store’s firearms.
The first deputies on the scene noticed the cases holding rifles and ammo had been disturbed. They also heard noises in the ceiling where they believe a suspect was hiding.
A tactical squad was called in to surround the building before the suspect could get away.
The car crashed through a metal grate and glass doors about 6:30 a.m., and the standoff continued more than four hours later. There were no employees inside at the time.
The incident clogged traffic in the area, which is near the Burien transit center.
