A man who allegedly was involved in a high-speed drive down Meadow Road that took a life Nov. 17 was arrested over the weekend and was being held on $2,500 bail in the Snohomish County Jail.
In January, Michael Dale Pike, 35, of Everett was charged with vehicular homicide in Everett District Court, but he failed to appear for a court hearing.
A judge issued an arrest warrant, and Pike was picked up by police Friday night following another traffic accident.
A jury found a co-defendant, Bobbi Jo Kubo, 35, of Everett, guilty of vehicular homicide in May. She was sentenced to three years in prison in June.
Pike, Kubo and another man were in separate vehicles after they had been drinking at a Lynnwood bar. They piled into three vehicles heading north on Meadow Road, a two-lane street, at a high rate of speed, court documents allege.
Pike had been in the lead car, and Kubo went by him in a no-passing zone, clipping an oncoming car and setting off a chain-reaction of accidents, said Joan Cavagnaro, deputy prosecutor.
The oncoming car had been driven by Joe Nishikawa. His wife, Jane, 71, had been in the passenger seat.
The Nishikawa car fishtailed after being clipped and came to rest sideways in the road. The driver of the third northbound car plowed into it, killing Jane Nishikawa.
Cavagnaro alleged Pike had been legally drunk at the time. Prosecutors have until July 29 to bring the case to Snohomish Country Superior Court, where felonies are tried.
