MARYSVILLE – The man killed by a Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy during a standoff in March died of a gunshot wound to the head, the county medical examiner reported Monday.
Cory Aaron Edmon, 27, was shot March 26 after he allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend’s 1-year-old son at her Marysville duplex, according to police. Edmon put a knife to the boy’s throat and dangled him out a window by a cord tied around the child’s neck, according to court documents.
The Everett Police Department led the investigation into the shooting as part of the county Multi-Agency Response Team, which is called out for officer-involved shootings.
The department has wrapped up its investigation, Sgt. Boyd Bryant said. The case will be forwarded to the county prosecutor’s office, which will determine if a crime has been committed.
Arlington: NASCAR track opposed
More than 125 residents packed a town hall meeting Monday to urge state Sen. Val Stevens to oppose a proposed race track for NASCAR near here.
Stevens called for the town hall meeting at Crown Beverage Distributing to talk about issues of concern to residents, but the NASCAR track dominated the discussion.
Stevens, R-Arlington, appeared surprised at the size of the crowd and the fierceness of their opposition to a proposal from Snohomish County and Marysville to bring a NASCAR track to one of two sites off 172nd Street NE.
Stevens, who has expressed optimism that a track will be built in the county, asserted she’s not backing any specific proposal at this time. She said she is interested in the possibility of a NASCAR track in Monroe near the county fairgrounds.
A community meeting on the track is set for June 1 at Marysville-Pilchuck High School, 5611 108th St. NE. in Marysville.
