DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Pakistan — Intelligence officials say suspected U.S. drones have fired eight missiles at two compounds in Pakistan’s northwest near the Afghan border, killing at least six suspected militants.
The officials say the missiles rained down today on the Degan area of North Waziristan, part of Pakistan’s semiautonomous tribal region dominated by militants who launch attacks against U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.
The U.S. refuses to talk about the CIA-run unmanned drone program in Pakistan, but officials say privately the missile strikes have killed several senior Taliban and al-Qaida leaders.
