LAKE STEVENS — A police pursuit Thursday morning ended when the fleeing man’s car broke down.
Just before 10 a.m., a Lake Stevens police officer tried to stop the car on Machias Road. The vehicle was suspected in a earlier pursuit in Snohomish, Lake Stevens police spokeswoman Julie Ubert said.
The driver didn’t pull over and instead veered into oncoming traffic attempting to hit a police officer’s patrol car, she said.
The officer swerved off the road and avoided a crash. Police chased the man’s car along Highway 92 reaching speeds of 70 mph before his car began to fall apart, Ubert said.
The man was arrested and was expected to be booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of second-degree assault and eluding police.
