EVERETT – Everett detectives searched for illegal drugs in a hospital room where a 21-year-old woman died this week under suspicious circumstances, according to a search warrant filed Friday.
Hospital nursing staff told investigators that the woman had checked into Providence Everett Medical Center Pacific campus Monday seeking treatment for a heroin addiction, court documents show.
She was moved to the Colby Avenue campus to be treated for an abscess on her hip Tuesday.
Her boyfriend and an unidentified woman allegedly visited the woman about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. The unidentified woman left about half an hour later, nursing staff reported to police. Two hours later, the hospitalized woman wasn’t breathing and didn’t have a pulse.
Hospital personnel were unable to revive her.
A nurse asked the woman’s boyfriend if anyone had given the woman something. The man allegedly said he didn’t, but the woman visitor may have, according to the search warrant.
Police searched the room for heroin and evidence of other drugs.
The Snohomish County medical examiner is expected to conduct an autopsy. It could take weeks before the cause of death is determined.
Police do not believe the woman’s death is connected to anyone who works at the hospital or any procedures conducted at the facility, Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said.
