“You catch it, then you kill it, then you take the blood out of it, then you take the feet off and you put it in the oven … for 10 minutes … then you eat it.”
– Lillian Wolff
“You buy it from the store, and you take out its stomach. Then you take his legs off and take the neck out of inside his body. You put it in the oven for, like, 30 minutes, or five minutes. Then you take it out and get ready to eat it.”
– Michael Ellis
“You buy it. You pull off the feathers. Maybe you cut it open. You put it in the oven, maybe for 20 hours, and you take it out and eat it.”
– Makayla Dahlin
“First, I catch it, then I pull off the feathers, then I wash it. Then I put a little bit of seasoning on it. Then I put it into the oven for, like, six minutes. Then I bake it and eat it.”
– Eleanore Johnson
“I buy it, then my mom takes out the bones and puts some salt on it to make it good. Then she puts it in the oven … for nine seconds, until the red light goes off, and it’s time to eat.”

“You get the feathers and pull off their feet and pull out their heads. Then you cook them and eat them.
– Diego Luna
“First, you buy it from the store. I know you cook it for three hours. Usually, I think my mommy … I can’t really remember how she cooks it. I think she looks and sees if it has stuff inside and takes it out. Then she puts it in a big pan and turns the oven on.”
– Elizabeth McCarter
“You put it in a pan and then turn the oven on and shut the door, for 10 hours. When it’s done, you open the oven door and take it out. Then you pull out the legs and pull out the heart. Then you make some more, like mashed potatoes, green beans, corn. Then you eat it, then you’re done.”
– Lacey Amond
“First, I kill it, but you have to catch it first. You tear off the feathers and cook it, but you have to put it in a pan first, sometimes. You put the pan in the oven … for 10 minutes, but you have to close the door. When the light goes off on my oven, that’s how I know when it’s finished.”
– Christopher Martin
“You just cook it (holding out her right hand as though holding a pan, and shaking it) for like five hours, in the pan. It’s done at like 6 o’clock.”
– Zahra Al-Rubai
“My mom, first she cuts it and takes off the feathers. Then she puts it in the pan, then she gets it out at 9 o’clock – about 30 minutes. Then she cuts it in half and gives it to everyone.”
– Myha Mejia
“You buy the turkey in the store, then you take out the feathers, then you pour salt, and that’s all. Then you put it on the pan, then you heat the oven for 800 heats. Then you put the turkey in, I don’t know how long. You take it out, then you serve it on the table.”
– Goldwyne Garcia
“You take the leaves out and wash it. You make sure it’s clean. You put salt on it, and it’s done. You put it in the oven for 10 minutes, then you eat it.”
