LAKE STEVENS — A state mediator on Tuesday called negotiators for the Lake Stevens School District and the Lake Stevens Education Association back to the bargaining table Friday — in Olympia.
District schools will remain closed this week.
Meanwhile, a special three-day filing period for the unexpired term of Roy Dotson on the Lake Stevens School Board begins today.
The bargaining session at 10 a.m. Friday will be at the state Office of the Public Employment Relations Commission in Olympia, school district spokeswoman Arlene Hulten said.
The negotiating teams last met in a marathon session on Sunday, but were unable to hammer out a tentative agreement. Neither side would say what is keeping them apart, except to confirm that the main issues still are about salaries, benefits and workloads.
Meanwhile, candidates can start applying for the position being vacated by Dotson. Dotson resigned because he no longer lives in the school district.
The position will appear on the general election ballot in November for the two years remaining in Dotson’s term. After that two years, the four-year position will be on the ballot.
Applicants can file at the auditor’s office between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. through Friday, elections supervisor Carolyn Diepenbrock said. There is no filing fee because the director’s position is unpaid.
Applicants must be registered voters and live in District 5, which is the southwest corner of the school district, district spokeswoman Arlene Hulten said.
It includes part of Sunnyside Boulevard to Ebey Slough on the west, Lundeen Parkway on the north, and Cavalero Corner on the south, she said. Both the school district and the auditor’s office have maps of the district.
