SPOKANE — Tanker planes dropping water and fire retardant slowed the rapid advance of a blaze in Spokane.
The Spokesman-Review reported that level three evacuations in the area in north Spokane have been lifted and about 100 homes are under a level two evacuation warning, which means people should be prepared to leave if necessary.
The 120-acre fire was burning Tuesday evening in difficult terrain. Department of Natural Resources spokesman Eric Keller says the area is a box canyon, which makes it challenging for fire crews to enter.
