Cheeta the chimp, star of a dozen “Tarzan” movies in the 1930s and 1940s, celebrated his 74th birthday on Sunday with sugar-free cake.
“He had a good time. The party went real good,” said keeper Dan Westfall, operator of the primate sanctuary Creative Habitats and Enrichment for Endangered and Threatened Apes in Palm Springs, Calif.
Representatives from a Spanish film festival also showed up for Sunday’s party to present Cheeta with the first award of his career, an International Comedy Film Festival of Peniscola prize.
Cheeta has been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s oldest chimp. Chimps rarely live past the age of 40 in the wild, but can reach 60 in captivity.
Westfall said Cheeta likes to paint, what he calls “ape-stract” pieces that are sold to raise money for the nonprofit sanctuary.
Three more bad days for Sutherland on ‘24’
Jack’ll be back – despite all the firepower the bad guys rain down on him. Kiefer Sutherland has signed on for three more seasons as superhero agent Jack Bauer on Fox’s “24.”
Sutherland has starred for five seasons as Bauer, who works for the fictional federal Counter-Terrorist Unit.
As the show plays out in real time, with each season covering 24 hours, Bauer faces crisis after crisis. In past episodes, he discovered his wife’s murdered body, fought heroin addiction and saved humanity from terrorists.
Kate Moss to star in new Calvin Klein ad
Kate Moss will star in a new ad campaign for Calvin Klein, the company said Monday, another sign that her career is back on track after cocaine use allegations. The 32-year-old British supermodel will appear on billboards and in magazines this fall. Burberry and other fashion houses canceled contracts with Moss last year after a British tabloid published a picture of her allegedly using cocaine. But she has secured a number of new contracts after she apologized and attended a rehab clinic.
