EDMONDS – A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the assault of a former middle school assistant principal during a road rage incident Monday night.
Richard Alseth, 64, was struck in the head during a traffic dispute in the 9500 block of 224th Street SW. He was in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Police arrested the teen about 10:20 p.m. Tuesday after searching an Edmonds house. Officers were acting on information that they received after a news conference held that afternoon, police said.
Detectives learned that two passengers were in the suspect’s vehicle at the time of the incident. The passengers told police that the teen got angry when Alseth pulled out in front of his 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Alseth was backing out of the driveway about 6:15 p.m. when he nearly collided with the Jeep. The suspect stopped and got out of the Jeep. He and Alseth yelled at each other. The teen allegedly punched Alseth, who raised his arms to shield himself.
The teen, whose identity was not released, was booked into the Denney Juvenile Justice Center for investigation of first-degree assault.
