MUKILTEO — Police arrested a 17-year-old boy Monday after they caught him riding a skateboard down a steep hill while holding on to the back of a vehicle.
An officer saw the stunt about 2:30 p.m. on Goat Trail Road, Mukilteo Police Cmdr. Chuck Macklin said.
When police told the skateboarder to get off his board, he allegedly refused. He was cited for negligent operation of skateboard and failure to obey a police officer, then released to his parents, Macklin said.
Skateboarding accidents have caused serious injury in Snohomish County.
An Everett boy, then 15, suffered multiple broken bones and a severe brain injury in a skateboarding incident last year.
In three separate incidents in 2006, a Marysville boy, 11, was in a coma for days; a Mukilteo boy, 15, was blinded and doctors were forced to amputate his right leg; and an Everett boy, 12, was killed.
Safety experts recommend always wearing a helmet while skateboarding. Never hold on to a vehicle, and skateboard only in designated areas, officials warn.
