CORVALLIS, Ore. — An Oregon State Police investigation has determined that a 16-year-old suburban Portland boy lacked the means to carry out an online threat that targeted Oregon State University.
OSP Campus Commander Lt. Steve Mitchell says a blog item threatened the use of a gun on campus but didn’t list specific targets or locations.
The Corvallis Gazette-Times repored the Gresham teen was arrested Sept. 27 for investigation of first-degree disorderly conduct. His name was not released. Lt. Gregg Hastings said the boy was initially taken to a youth detention center, then later released to his parents.
State police became aware of the threat on Sept. 26 as students were arriving in Corvallis before the fall term. School officials alerted students and staff and law enforcement patrols were increased.
The Multnomah County district attorney will make a determination on any charges.
