EVERETT — An Everett teenager accused of shooting at his friend in a dispute over a suspected theft has been sent to juvenile detention for up to three years.
Prosecutors agreed to drop a first-degree assault charge against the teen. That charge would have meant the defendant, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, would have been prosecuted in adult court. In return, he pleaded guilty to unlawful gun possession and two counts of drug crimes in juvenile court. The teen had a prior felony conviction and wasn’t allowed to possess firearms.
The shooting happened Dec. 17 on Sound Avenue. The teen was accused of firing multiple rounds at his friend, who confronted the defendant about stealing from him. The friend fired multiple times into the front door when he realized he’d been locked out of the house.
Police recovered five guns, including a military-style rifle. They also found cocaine, heroin and other illegal drugs.
