BOARDMAN, Ore. — Authorities say a teen has surrendered in Washington state after allegedly shooting a man in Boardman, Oregon over the weekend.
The 17-year-old’s name was withheld because of his age but Boardman police confirmed Wednesday they had already been searching for him as a person of interest in the Sunday night slaying of 27-year-old Evencio Salas Birrueta of Irrigon.
Boardman Police Chief Rick Stokoe said in a statement that the teen turned himself in to law enforcement in Cowlitz County, Washington about 20 hours after the shooting.
He was preliminarily charged with murder and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon.
He is being held at the Northern Oregon Regional Correctional Facilities in The Dalles.
Morrow County District Attorney Justin Nelson says he will be arraigned Wednesday.
