STANWOOD — Detectives on Saturday were investigating an early-morning car crash that killed a teenage girl and injured a young man.
The two were northbound on Old Pacific Highway just south of 300th Street NW shortly after 4 a.m. when the car left the road, Snohomish County sheriff’s Lt. Rick Hawkins said. The Ford Mustang went airborne and crashed.
The girl, a passenger, was thrown from the car and died at the scene. She lived in the area, Hawkins said. Her name hasn’t been released.
The driver was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. His condition was not available Saturday.
On Saturday afternoon, skid marks were visible along Old Pacific Highway, where the driver apparently lost control.
Detectives from the sheriff’s Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the crash, Hawkins said. Speed appears to be a factor, he said.
The speed limit in the area is 50 mph.
Also, an Arlington man died Saturday after his motorcycle crashed on Highway 9 south of Mount Vernon.
The man, 66, was southbound on Highway 9, about 11 miles south of Mount Vernon at 1:40 p.m. Saturday when his Harley-Davidson struck a guardrail, according to a Washington State Patrol memo.
He died at the scene.
