Snohomish County prosecutors have filed criminal charges against a second person in connection the New Year’s Eve death of a 16-year-old girl who overdosed on Ecstasy.
A Puyallup girl, 17, appeared Friday in Snohomish County Juvenile Court on a charge of homicide by controlled substance. The charge was filed May 18 alleging that she purchased Ecstasy and gave some to her friend.
The friend, Danielle Dawn McCarthy of Puyallup, was already dead when she was brought to Stevens Hospital in Edmonds on New Year’s Day.
The Herald normally does not identify young people tried in Juvenile Court.
The Snohomish County medical examiner’s office attributed Danielle’s death to an overdose of Ecstasy. Both girls were juniors at Rogers High School and had attended New Year’s parties in Seattle and Edmonds.
Prosecutors already charged David Michael Morris, 20, of Puyallup with participating in Danielle’s death by selling Ecstasy to the girls.
Morris also is charged with homicide by controlled substance in Snohomish County Superior Court. He is scheduled for trial in September.
