Thank goodness for hellebores: a perennial that can give us a bloom, even in this weather. The long-lasting flowers come in pink, green, white, yellow and dark purple and the leaves aren’t bad either.
If you can handle the wait, the Northwest Perennial Alliance is displaying and selling many hellebore species and hybrids 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., March 2 at the Bellevue Botanical Garden Visitors Center.
Gardeners looking for early gems from local vendors and divisions and seedlings from the NPA borders will find plenty: this plant sale will offer new cultivars of Hellebores including some double H. orientalis, Narcissus, Epimedium, many cultivars of Primrose and Euphorbias, Ajuga, Heuchera and their relatives Bergenia, Brunnera, Dianthus and Campanula.
