Herbs are at the top of my list of things everybody ought to grow. Afterall, they’re easy to grow and cheap, especially when you consider how much a bundle of fresh herbs costs at the grocery store. And you’ll have a ready supply of flavorful, aromatic herbs for your kitchen.
A story in today’s food section covered what herbs are best used fresh (basil, chervil, chives, cilantro, lovage, parsley and tarragon), and which are OK fresh or dried (thyme, savory, sage, oregano, rosemary and bay).
Let this serve as a guide for choosing what herbs you devote precious garden space. If you have limited space and / or want to try a variety, pick up herb starts (the young plants) at nurseries this time of year.
