The Cure to play Everett arena

It’s just like heaven for local fans of The Cure.

After canceling Saturday’s Curiosa Festival at The Gorge, the rock band announced Wednesday it will play a makeup show at 8 p.m. Aug. 31 at the Everett Events Center.

Tickets are $49.90 and go on sale at 10 a.m. today for “An Evening With the Cure.”

“It’s short notice for people, but I’m sure they understand that things do happen,” said Kim Bedier, events center general manager.

The arena may have been the only one in the area with a vacancy Aug. 31. Prince is at KeyArena that night, and the Great American RV Sale will be at the Tacoma Dome.

“We’re just happy we had the date open in order to accommodate the show,” Bedier said.

In its 25-year career, The Cure has covered a range of musical styles and has sold millions of albums worldwide. The Cure has numerous hits, including “Love Song,” “Friday I’m in Love,” “Never Enough” and “Just Like Heaven.”

The band was perhaps best known for its role in introducing Goth rock to mainstream audiences. But critics and fans agree that the band’s repertoire is more diverse than the brooding songs that originally made it famous.

All seating for The Cure’s Everett show will be general admission.

The Everett Events Center will honor tickets from the canceled Gorge show and will sell at least a couple of thousand more, Bedier said. Ticketholders who cannot make the rescheduled show in Everett will receive a refund, she said.

As refunds are given, more seats will open.

The Gorge show was canceled after lead singer Robert Smith announced he needed to fly home to London this week for personal reasons.

Though The Cure is touring with a handful of other bands, including Cooper Temple Clause, Cursive, Interpol, Mogwai, Scarling and The Rapture, the band will play solo in Everett.
