Q Over the past few years, as streets have grown wider, there is a lot of confusion about the law concerning school buses. When a bus has its stop signs out and its red lights flashing on a two-lane road, there is no confusion about stopping, but how about on a five-lane road?

A Lt. Mark Thomas with the Washington State Patrol said the driver of a vehicle on a highway with three or more marked traffic lanes doesn’t need to stop when meeting a school bus that is proceeding in the opposite direction and is stopped to pick up or drop off children.
