WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — Police in Utah say a thirsty 8-year-old boy trying to get a drink in a neighbor’s home by sliding down through the chimney was trapped for more than four hours.
West Valley City police Sgt. Robert Hamilton says the boy climbed a tree to get to the roof, then went down the chimney feet first on Friday. Hamilton says the boy lives several blocks away and recently was in the home for a play date.
The boy made it 30 feet down before he became wedged between the basement and main floor.
Homeowner Richard Draper says the family had dinner out and came home to hear crying sounds in the chimney.
Rescuers cut an 8-by-5-foot hole in a wall to free the boy, who suffered mostly scrapes and bruises.
