SEATTLE — More than 5,000 people visited the Washington health insurance exchange during the first weekend of open enrollment.
Officials from Washington Healthplanfinder say 1,900 people visited the website in the first few hours of operation Saturday, before it was shut to fix a problem with tax credit calculations.
On Sunday, the site had 3,300 unique visitors. The call center also received thousands of calls during the weekend.
Five hundred small businesses have created accounts for a new business insurance program.
The open enrollment period continues through Feb. 15. Officials hope the 145,000 people who bought insurance through the program last year renew and that as many as 85,000 more sign up.
People who do not buy insurance will be fined through their income taxes.
