BREMERTON — Brementon police believe they have captured some of the people who bought Girl Scout cookies with counterfeit $20 bills.
Detective Sgt. Kevin Crane says the counterfeiters also were using fake bills to make purchases at stores all over Kitsap County.
On Sunday, a drug store clerk recognized the bills as counterfeit and called the police. Bremerton police now have three people in custody and probable cause to arrest a fourth. The three are scheduled to appear in Kitsap County court this afternoon.
Girl Scout Troop 40411 plans to be back out next weekend, armed with counterfeit-detecting pens to check currency.
The troop lost the equivalent of 25 boxes of cookies because they accepted $100 in counterfeit bills.
