Edmonds City Council candidates Mike Nelson, Neil Tibbott and Dave Teitzel hold clear leads in returns from the Tuesday, Nov. 3, general election counted through Wednesday afternoon.
Incumbent Councilman Nelson leads challenger Alvin Rutledge 80.84 percent to 18.84 percent; Tibbott leads incumbent Councilwoman Lora Petso 56.12 percent to 43.70 percent; and Teitzel leads candidate Alicia Crank 71.05 percent to 28.71 percent.
Nelson was defeating Rutledge for the last two years of the four-year term that Nelson has held since the council appointed him to replace former Councilman Strom Peterson who resigned to start his position in the legislature. Tibbott leads Petso for the position that Petso won in 2011 after her appointment in 2010; she also had served an earlier term. Teitzel leads Crank for the position that Councilwoman Joan Bloom is giving up after one term.
Mayor Dave Earling and council members Diane Buckshnis and Thomas Mesaros ran unopposed. Two council members are in the middle of their terms.
Snohomish County officials plan to post updated returns Thursday afternoon and every weekday until final certification of results Nov. 24.
