Three pedestrians have died this week after being struck by vehicles in three separate accidents in Snohomish County.
Most recently, a man was killed early Thursday after being hit by a vehicle in Edmonds. An Everett man died Wednesday after bring struck while trying to cross I-5. And another man died Wednesday after being injured in a traffic accident in Granite Falls last month.
In the Edmonds accident, an unidentified Lynnwood man believed to be 60 years old was struck in the 21300 block of Highway 99 at 2 a.m. Thursday, said Edmonds police.
The victim was found lying in the road, and police learned from a Shoreline business manager that an employee had likely been involved in the accident. Officers spoke to the suspected driver, a 25-year-old Edmonds man, who was cooperative, police said.
The driver told police he was southbound on Highway 99 when the pedestrian stepped out from the left-turn lane and into his lane. The victim was not at an intersection or in a crosswalk, according to police.
The shaken driver continued to his workplace and told co-workers that he had been involved in an accident, police said. The manager called 911 for him.
Police are investigating the collision and have not determined a cause. The victim’s name was withheld pending positive identification and notification of family members. The driver was released pending a decision on whether charges will be filed.
In the Everett incident, Ronald L. Jensen, 24, was struck by a van shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday as it was driving north on I-5. Jensen was on the right shoulder and stepped into the right lane, according to the Washington State Patrol. The van’s driver, a 47-year-old Sedro-Woolley woman, tried to avoid Jensen, the patrol said. She was not injured.
And a Granite Falls man died Wednesday night after being injured in a Jan. 26 crash, the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office said.
Cecil Fagerlie, 77, was trying to cross E. Stanley Street at 5:20 p.m. on Jan. 26 when he was hit. Fagerlie suffered a broken leg in the accident, Granite Falls police Sgt. Mike Tow said. His death was due to natural causes complicated by injuries from the crash, the medical examiner’s office said.
Fagerlie was not in a crosswalk and stepped in front of the vehicle, Tow said. No charges have been filed against the driver.
In an unrelated incident, the medical examiner’s office said a Marysville man’s death Wednesday was caused by the impact of the crash and not an event preceding the incident. Christopher J. Tessaro, 52, died of severe chest injuries after he crashed his truck at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday on I-5 at Highway 526.
