SEATTLE — Three Washington universities are on Sierra Magazine’s list of the 20 colleges that do the most to help solve climate issues and operate sustainably. And the University of Washington is at the very top of the list.
At No. 9 is The Evergreen State College in Olympia. Western Washington University in Bellingham is No. 14.
The magazine notes that UW gets 90 percent of its energy from hydropower, and has several education programs that focus on environmental responsibility.
The only state with more colleges on the magazine’s list is California, with six universities mentioned, including the University of California at San Diego at the No. 3 spot and Stanford at No. 5.
