LAKE STEVENS — Kids can register now to be part of this year’s Aquafest Children’s Parade.
The annual parade for children of all ages is scheduled on July 29, the first day of the three-day festival.
Kids are encouraged to decorate their bikes, wagons and scooters in celebration of this year’s festival, “The Spirit of Lake Stevens.” All children who are registered will receive a purple and gold pom-pom to celebrate this year’s parade.
Check-in is set to start at 5 p.m. on Hartford Drive in front of the Lake Stevens Fire Station 81. The parade is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
Applications are available online at www.aquafest.org, at the Lake Stevens Journal, Lake Stevens City Hall and the Lake Stevens Library.
“I have a prize each year and this year it’s purple and gold pom-poms,” said Sue Fernalld, chairwoman of the Children’s Parade. “I always say it’s the starting of Aquafest on Friday. It’s a fun family start.”
The entrants’ names and a description of the entries are announced along the parade route, Fernalld said. A total of 301 children and 108 adults were part of last year’s children’s parade.
The 51st Aquafest celebration is also set to include 5K and 10K runs, and water ski, tennis, disc golf, softball, basketball, soccer and wakeboard tournaments on July 30.
A grand parade is planned at 1 p.m. along Main Street and a fireworks display can be viewed at 10 p.m. at North Cove Park. Events on July 31 include a classic car show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at North Lake Middle School and a $50 boat race at noon.
A complete schedule of the weekend’s events is available at www.aquafest.org.
“I look forward to the grand parade because I take my grandkids and they like seeing all the floats,” Fernalld said.
Volunteers are also still needed for all Aquafest events, she added.
