Tire debris smashes windshield on Highway 520

BELLEVUE — The Washington State Patrol says a driver was lucky to avoid serious injury when a large piece of tire rubber smashed through the windshield Tuesday morning on Highway 520 in Bellevue.

Trooper Julie Startup says the rubber missed the driver by inches and landed in the passenger seat.

KOMO-TV reports the rubber had separated from the rim of a wheel on a trailer being towed by a pickup truck in the opposite direction.
