Helping others: Enjoyed a human development class in which she and classmates were able to set up an “alternative recess” for youngsters. The high school students planned activities for the first- and second-graders and learned to work within a budget.
Career-minded: Is being recognized as school’s outstanding career and technical education student for the first semester later this month. Acknowledged for success in career and technical classes in accounting and human development and working as a tutor and in the greenhouse. Has also attended Sno-Isle Skills Center, where she studied business and management.

Helping out: Is president of the school’s Family Careers and Community Leaders of America chapter and will lead a school-wide food drive.
Next year: Planning to attend community college and is considering a career in business or journalism.
Ever thankful:Credits Lakewood High School teacher Monica Rooney with convincing her she should go to college. “She is the one who really got me into thinking I can go to college. She asks me all the time where I applied.”
Literature corner:Has read “Jane Eyre,” “Beowulf” and “Macbeth” for senior English. Liked “Jane Eyre” the most. “I really liked that she had a bad life and everything ended up turning out for the better, even though she had to make hard decisions.”
Favorite books: Romance novels and mysteries. “My sister got me into romance novels. I like mystery novels a lot. I like suspenseful things where you never know what’s going to happen.”
Many moves: Spent much of her early childhood moving from town to town. Homes included Walla Walla, Skykomish, Entiat and Gold Bar.
Childhood memory: A two-story playhouse in Gold Bar. Sometimes Buttons, the family pig, chased her up to the second story. “We thought we were getting a little pig. It turned out to not be so nice.”
Other critters: Family has six cats and two dogs. Stormy, a 16-year-old cat whose black hair is turning gray, is the old-timer.
Little-known fact: Underneath an outgoing personality is someone who is bashful. “I’m actually a shy person, but I’m really talkative. I’m kind of secret shy.”
