SANDUSKY, Ohio — Authorities say a trailer carrying 30 to 40 people on a hayride overturned in northern Ohio when the tractor pulling it drove off the road, injuring 28.
State Highway Patrol troopers say driver Michael Hermes (HERM’-ess) had open alcohol containers and refused to take a sobriety test Saturday night. Police got a warrant to draw his blood for analysis.
Hermes was booked into Erie County Jail and released on $10,000 bond. A message left at a phone number that appeared to be his was not immediately returned.
Two passengers have been airlifted to a hospital, where they were in fair condition. Troopers haven’t given details on their injuries. A Perkins Township fire captain says other victims were being treated for bruises and possible broken bones.
