SEATTLE — An Amtrak passenger train struck and killed a 19-year-old woman Thursday evening near Golden Gardens park, police said.
The Shoreline woman was walking along the tracks, on her way to meet a man who had retrieved her misplaced cell phone, police spokesman Clem Benton said.
The train, called the Cascade, had left Seattle and was headed north when it hit the woman shortly before 6 p.m.
She had been walking along the northbound tracks, and a friend waved at her to move out of the way of the oncoming train. But Benton said there may have been some confusion, because there was also a southbound train nearby.
The woman’s name was not immediately released.
