LYNNWOOD — Investigators believe a Wednesday night treehouse fire is connected to a string of arsons in the area.
The fire was reported about 10:30 p.m. in the woods near the 1100 block of 199th Street SW, east of Lynnwood, said Leslie Hynes, spokeswoman for Snohomish County Fire District 1. The treehouse was in a vacant lot next to the greenbelt where the previous fires were set. The treehouse was destroyed.
The other fires happened Aug. 4, Aug. 8, Aug. 16 and Aug. 27.
The woods in the area are surrounded by homes, Hynes said. The latest fire was less than 50 feet from a house.
People in the neighborhood are asked to keep an eye out for anything suspicious.
The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
Anyone with information is asked to call 425-388-3557 or 800-55-ARSON. There is a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
Avoid arson
•Leave outside lights on at night.
Clear combustibles from around garages, homes and other structures. That includes paper, grass piles, weeds and litter.
Lock all doors, windows and gates. Make sure windows, screens and doors can open easily from the inside if needed for escape.
Make sure the home has working smoke alarms.
Create and practice a home fire escape plan.
