PASCO — The trial of a former Pasco police sergeant accused of trying to solicit a prostitute and lying to investigators is under way.
The Tri-City Herald reported that prosecutors began opening statements Monday against Zachary Fairley.
Prosecutors say Fairley exchanged dozens of text messages with a woman who posted an online ad posing as an escort. When officers asked Fairley about the exchanges he denied contacting the woman.
Fairley was placed on paid administrative leave months after the alleged text messages were discovered and was fired in 2014.
Defense attorney Etoy Alford says they department was biased against Fairley and that the text messages may be related to a prostitution investigation his client was overseeing.
