SEATTLE — Attorneys for a man accused of killing a Seattle teacher say their client acted in self-defense, but prosecutors argue the man was gunned down for no reason.
The Seattle Times reported the arguments from both sides came during the murder trial of Richard Roundtree.
Roundtree had been arrested with his girlfriend in connection with the Dec. 13 shooting that killed Brent McDonald. The girlfriend was later granted immunity in the case in exchange for her testimony.
Deputy Prosecutor Darren Thompson told jurors video surveillance of the encounter between Roundtree, his girlfriend and McDonald didn’t show any arguing or fighting before the victim was shot.
Defense Attorney Reid Burkeland argued that McDonald had been acting aggressively while trying to buy crack from Roundtree’s girlfriend and that his client had to defend himself and the woman.
