Thirty-two contenders took on obstacles such as a rain forest; a slippery, banked NASCAR corner; and a vat of liquid strawberry Jell-O on Friday, all for the glory of the Marysville Strawberry Festival Trike Race.
Eight teams of four competitors each rode custom-built tricycles through an obstacle course that included a water pit fed by spraying hoses, a teeter-totter and a pit of sloggy brown mud, then got off their trikes to walk on ropes over an inflated plastic crocodile and jump into the pool of Jell-O.
The Roy Robinson Chevrolet team won the competitive division with a time of 6 minutes, 11 seconds, and The Everett Clinic team won honors in the sprint division with a time of 7 minutes, 37 seconds. A team led by Snohomish County Sheriff Rick Bart won in a match against the Marysville Police Department, led by chief Bob Carden.
The event, sponsored by Cuz Concrete Products and Septic Service and facilitated by the Marysville Noon Rotary Club, drew about 1,500 people to State Avenue and raised $343 for the club’s education fund.
