SEATTLE — A Washington State Patrol trooper was recovering at a Seattle hospital Wednesday after he was in a serious wreck the day before.
Lance Ramsay, 41, suffered broken ribs, as well as injuries to his back and face, said trooper Keith Leary with the Washington State Patrol. He was in the intensive care unit Wednesday at Harborview Medical Center.
Ramsay has been able to speak a few words to his family, Leary said. He and his family have asked for privacy.
“It’s a long road to recovery,” Leary said. “He’s a lucky trooper.”
The crash happened about 4:18 p.m. where Highway 9 intersects with 172nd Street SE, in the Clearview area. Ramsay was southbound on his motorcycle when he struck the back of a minivan, Leary said. The minivan was stopped behind another vehicle that was waiting to turn left.
A Kirkland man, 20, and two children who were in the minivan were not injured.
Ramsay was rushed to a local hospital before being moved to Harborview.
He’s been a trooper for about 20 years, Leary said.
Investigators are asking for anyone who witnessed the accident or the events leading up to it to come forward. They are urged to call detective Sgt. Jerry Cooper at 360-805-1192 or detective Greg Wilcoxson at 360-805-1195.
The crash is expected be under investigation for some time, Leary said.
The request for witnesses is standard for any major accident investigation.
