Everett: Man killed in crash is identified

A man killed in a motorcycle crash Thursday has been identified as Savador Luna, the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office reported Friday.

Luna, 28, of Bothell died of blunt trauma to the head, investigators ruled.

The crash happened about 6 p.m. in the 1600 block of SE Everett Mall Way. Luna was northbound and crossed into oncoming traffic, striking a center divider, police reported. He was launched into the air and struck two cars, including an Everett Fire Department sedan.

He died at the scene.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Everett police tip line at 425-257-8450.

Brier: Cord sparks fire, destroying garage

A fire consumed a detached garage in the 3100 block of 226th Place SW Thursday, causing $40,000 damage to the structure and $40,000 damage to the arcade game room inside, fire officials said Friday.

No one was inside the garage, and no one was injured in the blaze, Fire District 1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes. The 1:16 p.m. fire also “produced a pretty good-sized column of smoke” that could be seen from a distance, she said.

Fire inspectors concluded a faulty extension cord caused the blaze, she said.

Lake Stevens: Brush fire closes highway

A brush fire shut down part of Highway 92 for a short time Friday afternoon.

The fire, about 150 feet by 150 feet, broke out in the 3800 block of 121st Drive NE parallel to the highway. Fire crews from Lake Stevens, Getchell and Granite Falls were able to keep the fire from spreading to trees nearby, Fire District 8 deputy chief Dave Lingenfelter said.

The owner of the property was clearing brush and had a burn pile despite the countywide burn ban, Lingenfelter said.
