SEATTLE — A Tulalip man was sentenced last week to nine years in federal prison for repeatedly assaulting his ex-wife.
The abuse was ongoing, according to court records. Brian Jones, 47, was accused of pointing a gun at his ex-wife and her then-husband in 2014. Five months later he choked and beat her, federal prosecutors said.
Following his arrest, Jones repeatedly contacted the victim and convinced her to refuse to testify in a tribal court trial. He also demanded that she recant her story to derail charges in U.S. District Court in Seattle. Federal prosecutors used the woman’s prior sworn statements and medical records at trial.
A jury convicted Jones of multiple charges, including assault, witness tampering and weapons crimes.
Jones has been in custody since his arrest in 2015.
The case was investigated by Tulalip Tribal Police and the FBI.
