A fishing accident off of Hermosa Beach early Sunday may have claimed the life of a 19-year-old Tulalip Reservation resident.
Helicopter crews, boats and divers searched for the man Sunday after his boat capsized off Hermosa Beach about 3:45 a.m.
A friend in the boat with him, 19-year-old Tulalip Reservation resident Chris Williams, was pulled out of the water by another fisherman, Tulalip Police Chief Jay Goss Jr. said.
Williams was treated at Providence Everett Medical Center Colby Campus. Later, he boarded a boat and showed search and rescue teams where he and his friend had been fishing.
Goss would not name the missing teenager Sunday.
Goss is hopeful the young man will turn up, but said he probably drowned.
“The man who was rescued was near drowning,” Goss said. “Had the boater not came along at that point, he indicated he did not believe he would make it.”
The Tulalip Police Department, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and Coast Guard conducted the search, which was planned to resume today at daybreak unless the teen was found.
