TULALIP – The Tulalip Tribes gave out nearly $800,000 to 44 organizations, government programs, public agencies and charities on Thursday.
State Rep. John McCoy, D-Tulalip, general manager of Quil Ceda Village, presided over the celebration lunch at the Tulalip Casino’s Cabaret Room. About 130 people attended.
“This is one way of showing that Tulalip is a responsible community member, in that our friends in and around the Tulalip community have needs and Tulalip Tribes is more than happy to respond to those needs,” he said.
The $794,000 the Tulalips distributed for the second quarter of 2004 is in addition to $2.5 million the tribe handed out in 2003.
“It’s a broader range and more (organizations) because of the downturn in the economy. … More and more people are in need,” McCoy said.
Each quarter, the Tulalips contribute money to charities and programs that assist people in need or help tribal members become self-sufficient. The tribe also donates 2 percent of table game revenues to the Community Impact Fund, which goes to various government programs and law enforcement agencies.
