EVERETT — A tip generated by a reality TV-crime show helped police nab a second suspect in a brazen robbery in which two men lured their victim on Craigslist.
U.S. Marshals worked with the Snohomish County Auto Theft Task Force just before Christmas to arrest a man in a Mountlake Terrace apartment who was wanted on a $250,000 warrant in connection with the Feb. 6 robbery.
Police got a lead about the man’s whereabouts after a viewer of KCPQ-TV’s “Washington’s Most Wanted” saw a segment about the suspect, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Lt. Brent Speyer said. Speyer leads the auto theft task force.
The man police arrested allegedly responded to an Internet classified ad posting for a 1997 Acura Integra in early February. He and an accomplice met the seller and allegedly beat him up during a test drive, stealing the car.
A Mukilteo man, 22, was arrested in March. He’s since pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery, Speyer said.
Information gathered during the investigation helped police identify the second suspect, but he remained at large until last week.
Speyer said he asked for help from the local crime show and the federal marshals.
The man police arrested was jailed and has since posted bond, Speyer said.
