Snohomish County detectives have arrested two people in connection with a recent rash of bomb threats directed toward Wal-Mart stores in the county.
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said Monday that a 29-year-old man was arrested Friday at his place of employment in Snoqualmie. He was jailed for suspicion of threats to bomb or injure property.
Last Tuesday, sheriff’s detectives arrested a 15-year-old boy at his residence in Marysville for similar threats against the store.
Detectives used phone traps and traces to nab the two suspects, Jorgensen said, adding officials do not believe either person had any real intention of bombing a store.
Edmonds: Woman charged in shooting
EDMONDS – An Edmonds woman was charged Friday with first-degree assault for allegedly shooting her brother in a dispute over a 9-year-old child.
Denise Marie Ferraro, 47, was also shot and suffered abdomen injuries May 7 after the two argued over whether the man could take his daughter, deputy prosecutor Erika Temple said Monday. Ferraro allegedly told police she shot her brother after he pushed her and “she was in fear for her personal safety,” Temple said.
A witness said Ferraro was rude, confrontational and the shooting was “totally unprovoked,” Temple said.
Police recovered a 38-caliber pistol from the woman’s house in the 8500 block of 202nd Street SW. The brother suffered extensive internal injuries and was hospitalized for nearly three weeks, documents say.
Snohomish: Fire causes $90,000 in damage
SNOHOMISH – A chimney fire caused an estimated $90,000 in damage to a Snohomish home Sunday, firefighters said.
The fire apparently seeped through cracks in the chimney in the home’s basement, spreading to wood framing, Snohomish County Fire District Deputy Chief Jerry Job said Monday.
“The fire was mainly in the walls when the firefighters showed up,” he said.
Two people were home when the fire started after 10 a.m. Sunday, he said. Neither were hurt. The fire happened in the 100 block of 81st Avenue NE.
