SILVERDALE — The Kitsap County sheriff’s office said two 10-year-old boys accused of bringing a loaded handgun to school have been arrested.
Deputy Scott Wilson said one boy asked the other to bring a family gun to Silverdale Elementary School because the first student wanted to assault certain members of his family.
The second boy searched until he found his parents’ gun safe and found a key that fit. He put a .40-caliber, semi-automatic handgun into his backpack and brought it to his friend near their school bus stop. They tried unsuccessfully to fire the gun, then stuffed it in the backpack and boarded their school bus.
At school Tuesday, word of the gun soon spread and a teacher found it in the pack. A deputy determined it was loaded with 10 rounds.
The boys were booked for investigation of conspiracy to commit assault. One boy was also booked for unlawful possession of a firearm and carrying a gun on school premises.
