MARYSVILLE – Two firefighters were taken to a local hospital this morning after battling a blaze that consumed one house and damaged another in the Sunnyside area, Marysville Fire District Spokeswoman Stephanie Price said.
One firefighter was being treated for heat exhaustion, Price said. The second firefighter was being treated for head and neck injuries he suffered when a ceiling in one of the homes collapsed.
Fire crews had the blaze under control by late morning, but they still were battling hot spots and flare-ups, Price said.
A 14-year-old neighbor called 911 after 9:30 a.m., when he saw flames leaping from one house in the 6300 block of 38th Place NE, Price said. The fire had spread throughout the home when fire crews arrived, and a second house also had caught fire.
The first house was destroyed. The second house is damaged.
Firefighters rescued a dog from one home, Price said. Nobody was in either home when fire crews arrived.
The local American Red Cross chapter plans to help those affected by the fire, Price said.
