POULSBO — The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office said two people were killed when a sport-utility vehicle struck a utility pole and burst into flames in Poulsbo.
The crash happened at about 2 a.m. Saturday. Investigators said the older-model Ford apparently veered onto the shoulder and then overcorrected, crossed over the other lane, struck several mailboxes and hit the utility pole. The fire spread up the pole.
When it was extinguished the vehicle’s two occupants were found dead.
Investigators said excessive speed appears to have been a factor.
